What is a Release Party?

  • A time to celebrate another great release of Ubuntu!
  • An opportunity to learn about Ubuntu and open source if you're new to it, or to bring a friend who is
  • A chance to meet new people with enthusiasm for open source
  • A time to learn about new features and changes in the fresh Ubuntu release
  • A social time to hange out with other users
  • A chance to share tips & tricks
  • An opportunity to install or upgrade Ubuntu on your computer
  • A time to have fun!

Why attend an installfest rather just doing an install/upgrade on your own?

  • All the necessary software is pre-downloaded, or otherwise available on a faster connection.
  • You can learn about useful tips or software for Ubuntu from others
  • You can meet up and socialize with others in the down time as the installation/upgrade is underway
  • You're able to get help with any issues that may arise

How does an installfest work?

  • Bring in your device that you want upgraded or to have Ubuntu installed on
    • If you bring a desktop, it would be advisable to bring a monitor, keyboard, and mouse; some installfests may have them provided for you.
    • Bring a typical Ethernet cable (8P8C) if you don't have a wireless card (or if wireless isn't provided).
  • Ask for information about whether to upgrade from a specific mirror or to use the appropriate disc for the install/upgrade.
  • Feel free to talk with others or look through any materials (like magazines) provided.
